Point your Squarespace domain at us
Two small changes at Squarespace make your domain show the new site. About ten minutes, no technical knowledge needed.

Steps to verify. We could not open every part of Squarespace's help material, so check each screen against these words and message us if it looks different.
What you are changing
You are changing two DNS records, which are the entries that tell the internet where your domain lives. An A record covers the bare domain (yourbusiness.com.au). A CNAME record covers the www version. The values to enter are [we send you these two values].
Before you start
- Sign in at account.squarespace.com. You need the login for the account that holds the domain. If someone else set it up, ask them for it, or ask them to follow this page.
- Check the domain's expiry date while you are in there. If it is close, renew it now.
- Your email keeps working. We do not touch MX records, which are the ones that carry email.
The steps
- Sign in and open your domains dashboard.
- Click your domain name.
- Click DNS in the side panel, then DNS Settings.
- Scroll down to Custom Records and click Add record.
- Choose A in the Type dropdown. Type
@in Host and paste our first value into Data. Click Save. - Click Add record again. Choose CNAME, type
wwwin Host and paste our second value into Data. Click Save. - To change a record that is already there, hover over it and click the pencil icon. Squarespace asks for your password or a code, then lets you edit Type, Name, Priority, TTL and Data.
Squarespace's page we could open covers editing records. The Custom Records wording comes from a search summary of its help article, so treat the Add record steps as to verify. Squarespace's default sites may already hold records for the www name. Remove those first.
How long it takes
Usually a few minutes. Sometimes up to a day while the change spreads across the internet. Nothing is lost in the meantime: visitors see either the old site or the new one.
How to check
Type your domain into a browser, with and without the www. When both show the new site, you are done. Or just ask us, and we will check from our side.
If Squarespace also hosts your old site
Leave it alone. It switches off by itself once the records change. Do not cancel anything until we say the new site is live.
Not sure?
Message us and we will do it with you on a ten-minute call. Get in touch.
