Point your Crazy Domains domain at us

Two small changes at Crazy Domains make your domain show the new site. About ten minutes, no technical knowledge needed.

Steps to verify. We could not open every part of Crazy Domains's help material, so check each screen against these words and message us if it looks different.

What you are changing

You are changing two DNS records, which are the entries that tell the internet where your domain lives. An A record covers the bare domain (yourbusiness.com.au). A CNAME record covers the www version. The values to enter are [we send you these two values].

Before you start

  • Sign in at crazydomains.com.au. You need the login for the account that holds the domain. If someone else set it up, ask them for it, or ask them to follow this page.
  • Check the domain's expiry date while you are in there. If it is close, renew it now.
  • Your email keeps working. We do not touch MX records, which are the ones that carry email.

The steps

  1. Sign in to your Crazy Domains account.
  2. Go to your list of domains and find your domain.
  3. Click Manage next to Domain Registration. Do not use the "DNS Hosting" button, which can leave your changes ignored.
  4. Find DNS Settings (it may be called DNS Management or Advanced Settings, then Zone Editor).
  5. Add a record of type A. Type @ as the host and paste our first value.
  6. Delete any other A record for @, such as a parking page. Two A records means your site only works some of the time.
  7. Add a record of type CNAME. Type www as the host and paste our second value.
  8. Save your changes.

Crazy Domains changes its console from time to time and the exact words vary. If you cannot find the DNS page in two minutes, message us.

How long it takes

Usually a few minutes. Sometimes up to a day while the change spreads across the internet. Nothing is lost in the meantime: visitors see either the old site or the new one.

How to check

Type your domain into a browser, with and without the www. When both show the new site, you are done. Or just ask us, and we will check from our side.

If Crazy Domains also hosts your old site

Leave it alone. It switches off by itself once the records change. Do not cancel anything until we say the new site is live.

Not sure?

Message us and we will do it with you on a ten-minute call. Get in touch.
